Chapter 1744 Seeing his wife get up, Colby got to his feet too, gently supporting Sophie's arm. "Take it easy, I'll help you upstairs," he murmured warmly.
Nearby, little Danny was on the brink of sleep. But when he saw the relentless reading machine-finally-packing up to leave, his eyes sparkled with relief. Even at his tender age, you could see gratitude shining through. Upstairs, William took a look at the medical gear Harold had set up for Sophie and Jenna.
"Wow, this setup is top-notch. Isn't this better than sdowntown hospitals?" Those shiny, expensive machines were hard to resist. William felt an itch to fiddle with them. Ah, the perks of having money.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtHarold cut in, "Stop gawking at the machines and check on Sophie's baby first." "Oh, right!" William stepped up, pulling out his stethoscope. After a quick listen, he announced, "I'll do an ultrasound." Sophie was way more familiar with this routine than William was.
After the check-up, William squinted at the ultrasound image, nodding like he knew what he was doing. "All looks good, really healthy!" Sophie watched him with a hint of skepticism. He didn't exactly radiate confidence like an obstetrician should.
"Are you sure you know what you're looking at?" "Of course!" "But you're holding it upside down." William coughed, trying to play it cool. "You don't get it, my skills are so top-tier, I can read it upside down." Harold, leaning against the doorframe, saw William fumbling and decided to step in, "Alright, as long as the baby's fine. It's almost 4:30; Sophie should go for a walk." With that, Harold grabbed the ultrasound from William. "Con, I'll show you to your room." "But I'm not done with it!" William protested as Harold dragged him along.
Once outside, Harold released him, lowering his voice. "Can you think before you act? You've had all this tto cup with a story, and you still can't manage it?" "I'm terrible at lying, and when Sophie looks at me, I just go blank. She looks atand I lose my words!" William was clearly not thrilled about this.
Gordon had asked him to check on Sophie's pregnancy, and he almost said no! He's a surgeon, not an obstetrician.
Do they think he's a one-man hospital on wheels? They call him for undercover work, gunshot wounds, and now pregnancies! Do they think he's a superhero? The more William thought about it, the more frustrated he felt.
If Gordon wasn't paying him so well, he wouldn't be their go-to guy.

"Stop making excuses. For the next few days, just play dumb. If she asks you anything, act clueless. And if you slip up..." "Impossible! Absolutely impossible!"
William quickly assured, "I might mess up other things, but not this. I won't spill @word!" He could brush off other threats, but Gordon's were serious business.
"As long as you get it. Now go." "But what about the ultrasound..." "I'll send it to my brother." With that, Harold walked off, taking the image with him.
William nodded, relieved to have one less problem to deal with. Then it hit him "Hey! Where's the room you set up for me?!"
