Chapter 99 Argument
Seeing Ambrose, Galatea stood there like a sculpture, stunned. She didn't expect to meet Ambrose again so
soon, and especially not alone with him.
"Um... I'm here to see Alaric. Is he not here?" Galatea nervously asked, locking eyes with him.
"Oh, Mr. Alaric just said he had a small meeting and askedto wait here. We'll have lunch together," Ambrose
replied.
What? A meeting?
Wasn't it Alaric who called her to cand see him?
With this realization, Galatea's mind buzzed, and she suddenly understood. She looked up and noticed the
surveillance camera in the corner of his office. Alaric must be watching them now. Her nose tingled, and tears
welled up uncontrollably. She had planned to cand explain everything to Alaric, but now it seemed like this
was just a test.
Galatea quickly put on a smile, afraid that Ambrose would see her reaction. She said, "Sorry for the
inconvenience. You can wait here. I'll leave first."
With that, Galatea turned around and walked out. Tears fell from her eyes at that moment, but she quickly wiped
them away and hurried into the elevator.
At this moment, she felt like a brainless fool. She had been so eager to chere after the phone call, but what
did it result in? A trap. "Ding!"
The elevator doors opened, revealing Alaric standing outside.
He must have been watching her on the surveillance camera; otherwise, he wouldn't have appeared right as she
was leaving.
"What do you mean, Alaric?" Galatea looked at him, carefully asking each word. "Is this your idea of fun? Are you
Enjoying the spectacle?" Alaric knew that what he did was not honorable, but...
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇt"I never thought it that way," Alaric replied.
"So | forced you to do this?" Galatea continued. "What conclusion have you drawn now?"
They had only exchanged a few words in the office with Ambrose. What conclusion could he have drawn?
"Isn't the conclusion obvious?" Alaric was also getting angry. "Do you think you've hidden it well, or do you think
I'm a fool?"
"I've never thought of you as a fool. If you want to know, you can ask. There's no need to do this!" Galatea was
truly furious.
"Haven't | asked these questions before?" Alaric countered the interrogation directly, "I've repeatedly reminded
you not to falsify your resume, and I've asked you multiple times about your husband. But what did you say? You
said that your husband's nwas Alistair Storm, and he had passed away. So what about now? Who is this
Ambrose?!"
Alaric would never resort to such measures out of absolute necessity, but despite his repeated questioning, the
results were still lies.
Galatea suddenly found herself at a loss for words. It was true that she had lied to him before, and she didn't
want to, nor did she have the courage to reveal the truth about her past. But now, it was too late for her to say
anything. "Keep explaining. Why aren't you saying a word?" Alaric approached her, his tone becoming even
colder. "Or perhaps you're going to make up more lies to deceive me? Galatea, ask yourself, how many of the
things you've toldare true? It's all been lies from start to finish. Are you happy deceivinglike a fool? Are
you enjoying acting innocent in front of me?"
These series of questions were like thrusting a blade into her vulnerability, asking her how many of her words
were true.
Yes, how many of her words were true? But during those times, she never thought about genuinely having
anything with this man. She never thought about truly deceiving him, and thus, she had no need to speak the
truth. Now she wanted to be serious with him, but unfortunately...
"Say something to me!" Alaric shouted at her when Galatea remained silent, startling her.
Because they were at the elevator's exit, in a public area, semployees happened to pass by, and their faces
changed upon seeing the scene.
"Mr. Alaric."
"Get out of here!" Alaric yelled.
Terrified, the employees immediately dispersed. Because this was a public area, causing a scene like this was
inevitably not good. Alaric reached over and grabbed her wrist, pulling her forward, intending to drag her into a
room. But Galatea resisted strongly, struggling not to go with him. However, in his anger, the more Galatea
struggled, the stronger Alaric's grip became.
"Alaric, let go of me, let go!" Galatea fiercely resisted.
Due to her intense reaction, Alaric let go of her with a flick of his hand, warning her, "You better behave
yourself!"
As he let go, combined with Galatea's fierce struggle, her wrist slipped from his grasp, and she fell heavily to the
ground due to inertia.
Seeing this, Alaric instinctively felt sorry and wanted to help her up, but his body stiffened.
Whether it was because of his behavior or because she truly felt pain from the fall, Galatea's tears fell instantly.
She struggled to stand up from the ground and looked at him, saying,
"Yes, you're right. Most of what | said to you before was not true. | was just a woman full of lies, hypocritical and
dishonest.
"What Alistair Storm, and the story about him being dead, it's all a lie. The truth is, after our family's downfall, he
abandoned me. And what did | do? | was incredibly stupid!
"After all these years, | still haven't forgotten about him. | gave up on the Medical Research Institute in Country M
and cback to Arizona, all to find him. But instead, | met you.
"At first, | never thought about marrying you. But then I realized that | couldn't find Alistair, and you had money

despicable woman, a very, very despicable woman. Are you satisfied now?"
Upon hearing these words, Alaric's veins bulged as he had the urge to strangle her.
Galatea couldn't help but feel her emotions on the verge of breaking down. She trembled all over and couldn't
hold on anymore. She didn't say anything else and ran out.
However, she ran until she was out of breath and had no strength left in her body. She nearly collapsed by the
side of the road and had to stop and catch her breath. But then, a car stopped beside her, and the sound of the
car door opening followed.
"Are you okay?" Ambrose's concerned voice sounded in her ears.
Just before, Silas informed him that he didn't have to wait and that their lunch meeting had been canceled.
Ambrose promptly left.
Now, Galatea was in a sorry state. The last person she wanted to see was Ambrose, but now he exposed her in
such a pitiful state.
Was this Alaric's arrangement? Does Alaric want to test whether Ambrose would not be able to resist seeing her
like this?
Hahaha...Galatea self-mockingly laughed in her heart, and as she looked at Ambrose in front of her, she suddenly
understood the true faces of these men.
