As she considered what to do, Elyse spoke up. “If he can’t return, then I'll go to him.”

Before Garret could argue, Louise quickly objected, saying, “That's absurd. The crossfire is dangerous; you'd only

put yourself in harm’s way.”

Eyes welling up, Elyse looked uncertain.

Garret sighed and said, “Both of you, calm down. I'll do what | can manage.”
